The first 100m at Battle Creek is the worst, and it gets progressively better from there. The section on the prairie looping around and descending has some windblown areas where it is down to hardpack. However, once you get on the big hill it is in excellent shape up in to the woods. I skied the rest of the 5k as it was being rolled (good to see the groomers out) and it was in fine shape; the new snow was skiing in to the base well. Being dark and ungroomed, I didn't ski the big hills out back.
